Pet Vaccinations

Preventative care is an essential part of pet ownership and without it many of our pets may become ill with serious infectious diseases.

We provide all vaccinations including parasite prevention and annual check-ups. Below we have listed advice and information for various animals.

Puppy vaccination course

Puppies initially receive immunity through colostrum from their mothers. This later serves to prevent them developing a good immune response to the vaccines. For this reason, puppies require additional vaccinations. We recommend the following vaccination protocol:

  • First vaccination: 6-8 weeks of age

  • Second vaccination: 10+ weeks of age

  • Third vaccination (non-essential): 16 weeks of age

Dogs

Core vaccines in dogs provide immunity against Parvovirus, Distemper Virus and Hepatitis. They are administered as a primary puppy course at one year of age and then annually or tri-annually depending on the owner’s preference.

Canine cough/kennel cough vaccinations are recommended annually and provides protect against:

  • Parainfluenza virus

  • Bordetella bronchiseptica

  • Heartworm prevention (or, can either be administered as a monthly tablet)

Kittens

Kittens do not develop immunity in the same way older cats do. For this reason, kittens require two core vaccinations 3-4 weeks apart (age dependent).

Please contact us to discuss this further.

Cats

Every cat should receive a core vaccine every year to ensure good immunity against:

  • Herpesvirus (a cat flu)

  • Calicivirus (a cat flu)

  • Parvovirus (feline enteritis)

  • Advised vaccines

Advised vaccines are non-essential vaccines that we recommend depending on your cat’s lifestyle and geographical factors. We strongly recommend vaccinating for feline immunodeficiency virus if your cat is outdoors. They are administered annually and include:

  • Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

  • Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV)

Please contact us to discuss which vaccination protocol vaccine is best for your cat.

Rabbits

We routinely vaccinate rabbits against viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD) virus.

Ferrets

We vaccinate ferrets against distemper. Two injections are administered 4 weeks apart and then repeated annually.

Other animals

We provide vaccinate for many other animals that we haven’t mentioned here. Please phone us for any vaccination advice.
