Laparoscopic Spay
At Belconnen Veterinary Centre, we’re proud to offer laparoscopic spay surgery — also known as a keyhole spay — as a safer, less painful alternative to traditional desexing. This advanced procedure uses a camera and specialised instruments inserted through small incisions, resulting in faster recovery and less discomfort for your pet.
What is a Laparoscopic Spay?
Unlike a traditional spay (ovariohysterectomy), which requires a larger abdominal incision and removal of both the ovaries and uterus, a laparoscopic spay typically removes only the ovaries (ovariectomy) using tiny incisions and high-definition imaging.
This technique offers:
Less surgical trauma
Reduced pain
Smaller scars
Faster return to normal activity
Benefits of a Laparoscopic Spay

Smaller incisions mean less disruption to surrounding tissues
-
Studies show pets experience significantly less post-op pain
-
Many pets are back to normal within 24–48 hours
-
Less bleeding, reduced infection risk, and no need for external sutures Item description
