At Belconnen Veterinary Centre, we understand how exciting — and sometimes stressful — the arrival of new puppies or kittens can be. If your pet is having difficulty delivering naturally or is a breed known for complicated births, a Caesarean (C-section) may be the safest option for both the mother and her babies. 

We offer both emergency and planned caesarean surgeries, backed by a skilled surgical team, full anaesthetic monitoring, and neonatal support. 

When Is a Caesarean Needed? 

C-sections are typically recommended when: 

  • Labour is prolonged or stalled (dystocia)

  • A puppy or kitten is stuck in the birth canal

  • The mother shows signs of distress or exhaustion

  • There are known complications from previous deliveries

  • The litter is very large or small

  • Your vet has recommended a scheduled caesarean based on breed or prior history

  • Brachycephalic breeds (such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, and British Bulldogs) often require planned caesareans due to their anatomy.

Emergency C-Section Services

We prioritise emergency cases and have protocols in place to deliver prompt care if your pet goes into labour outside normal hours.
